Frederick Bailes: "Man's power of choice enables him to think like an angel or a devil, a king or a slave. Whatever he chooses, mind will create and manifest."
Abraham Lincoln: "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power."
Out of all three experiments conducted this session I found "The Bridge" to be both the most challenging and interesting. Power for me was difficult to comprehend and express. Initially i began to draw on notions of power in terms of celebrating extreme material wealth and domination with relation to the two client's Carlos Slim and Zhang Yin. I aimed to reflect the beauty of power in the circumstances of the clients, the way in which their fortunes were made. However i came to discover that trying to reflect this for me was quite difficult. I began to approach the clients from a new perspective, spaces were ultimately constructed for thier personal use but overall the design captures the effect such power would have, isolating them from the rest of society. Built around a towering peak where the dining/meeting area is situated the series of maze like spaces merge to form a type of trap in which the clients themselves are victims of thier own power. In comparision to the architecture they remain as insignificant as any mere person is.
