Experiment Three: The Bridge

Ratan Tata

"But it was good fortune for the Tata Group that, when the time came, Ratan had already made himself; and he seized the challenges and opportunities, steering the group way ahead of others with enviable grace and dignity. Ratan will go down in the Indian history as one of the greatest industrialists of all times. His contribution to the Indian industry through the Tata Group is extremely valuable and everlasting. He will be long remembered for his rare and unique adherence to noble principles, astute business acumen, inner steel-like strength, inherent fairness to the shareholders and business associates and dignified demeanour all the time."

Zhang Yin

"Paper-recycling tycoon Zhang Yin has become the first woman to top the list of China's richest people, with a fortune of $3.4bn (£1.8bn).
Ms Zhang is the 49-year-old founder of Nine Dragons Paper, which buys scrap paper from the US for use in China."

Carlos Slim

"By our calculations, the 67-year-old Slim has amassed a $59 billion fortune, based on the value of his public holdings at the end of July. This number puts him just ahead of perennial No. 1, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, whose net worth is estimated to be at least $58 billion. But Gates is selling off his single greatest source of wealth, Microsoft stock, to fund his foundation, while Slim's fortune is growing at a stunning clip. His net worth jumped $12 billion this year alone. His family's holdings represent more than 5% of Mexico's 2006 gross domestic product, and Slim-controlled companies make up one-third of the $422 billion Mexican Bolsa, or stock exchange."

"Those who dare not waste one hour of time fighting their cause discover the true value of life.."

The underlying notion which I drew inspiration and meaning from my aggregated quote was based upon the idea of journey and challenges one may face throughout life. Those who strive tirelessly fighting for their passion truly discover the value of life. Whilst investigating how to represent each space I found it difficult connecting two completely seperate entities so i ultimately merged them around a central muli-level ramp. Each space has views out over the edge to the view beyond, symbolic of life's ultimate goal. I have obscured the view by placing columns/slats over many openings which only allow light to enter and a small portion of the view to be seen. The central court acts as the meeting point, the place one may approach the edge unrestricted by fences.
